several weeks ago i put together a little "movie date" complete with snacks and also to share The Land Before Time with my two best gals - this was the very first movie i saw in the theatre (when i was five) so i was pretty jazzed.
this is how it went down -
out here on the farm we're experiencing typical pre // early summer weather.
wind.
the wind out here on the farm can be absolutely miserable when it blows nonstop for days on end. and i'm not talking a nice breeze. it's usually blowing between 20 - 30 mph. when this is the case it's necessary to get creative in the keep the children busy category.
when i learned that there was going to be a Land Before Time Complete DVD Collection release i knew it would be the perfect opportunity to take an afternoon for a movie viewing.
then...the gals and i decided to take it one step further...because i'm crazy like that.
before we knew it i had secured movie dates for kaye and sawyer and a store run had produced banners // glitter letters // and popcorn boxes, we snagged our Pop Secret at walmart, and that same evening i decided i wanted to step things up and ended up creating a movie night invitation // banner // and food labels.
i know this seems like a lot, but the gals and i had a great time putting the banners together and decorating our kitchen so our guests would get the full movie date experience...whether they knew they were on a little date or not.
before our guests arrived we arranged the candy and popped the Pop Secret in preparation for the movie snacks assembly.
the next part was more about keeping my best gals away from their favorite food. popcorn. give them all the popcorn. i guess they take after their mom just ever so slightly.
when it came time to watch the movie we let the kids assemble their popcorn mixes.
i had selected six of my favorite candies (because this is about me and my likes) - chocolate covered pretzels // m & m's // gummy bears // kit kats // chocolate chips // reeses pieces
the kids were to fill their popcorn boxes with a mixture of the Pop Secret popcorn and the candy to enjoy with the movie. simple instructions - and totally a big hit.
it was absolutely precious to watch each child make their careful selections. some chose mostly popcorn (kaye - she selected about four pieces of candy total). some chose a nice mixture (brody). and some honey badgered their way to the chocolate and filled their box (sawyer). and when sawyer's box was gone she went after beckam's...who was too tired to even eat his.
with their popcorn and a big comfy couch all four kids snuggled in for The Land Before Time - all one hour and 29 minutes of it. their eyes were glued.
and i fell in love all over again with the characters i met when i was five for the first time in the movie theatre.
it was such a fun activity for the kids and amy and i were able to chat uninterrupted for the duration of the movie. that's a win all around in my book.
if this sounds like a movie event you could get on board with (and i strongly encourage) feel free to head to walmart to grab The Land Before Time: The Complete Collection DVD, available now while supplies last!
